FORT MYERS, Florida (Nov. 16, 2018) – The FIU women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night, as the Panthers dropped a 100-58 decision to the Eagles on the road.
With the loss, FIU falls to 0-4 on the young season, while FGCU improves to 2-1 on the year.
FIU was led by
TaMiracle Taylor, who scored 17 points to earn a new career-high for the sophomore. FGCU's Keri Jewett-Giles scored 18 on the night to lead the Eagles.
FIU held a brief 10-6 lead to start out Friday's contest, before FGCU reeled off a 16-0 run to recapture momentum and a 24-12 advantage after the first quarter. The Eagles stretched out their lead with a big second quarter, after scoring 34 points to take a 58-28 advantage into the locker room.
The Eagles extended their lead further in the third quarter after another 20-plus point quarter, but the Panthers bounced back for their most improved quarter with a 19-point showing in the final period. The late push was not enough however, as FIU fell 100-58.
