MIAMI (Nov. 6, 2018) – FIU couldn't overcome a hot start from No. 24/25 Miami on Tuesday night, as the Hurricanes took the 2018-19 season opener 94-43 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
With the loss, FIU falls to 0-1 to start the season, while No. 24/25 UM improves to 1-0.
Redshirt junior
Chelsea Guimaraes led FIU with 11 points while snagging one rebound and swatting a shot.
The Hurricanes had four players in double-figures with junior Sarah Mortensen leading the pack with 24 points. Redshirt junior Beatrice Mompremier posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
UM jumped out to a 19-8 advantage in the first quarter and carried the momentum to take a 38-18 lead into the locker room. The Hurricanes outscored the Panthers 30-8 to open the second half before FIU scored 17 fourth-quarter points to narrow the gap, but it was not enough as UM earned a 94-43 victory.
