MIAMI (Dec. 2, 2018) – FIU outscored Morgan State 38-22 in the second half on Sunday, as the Panthers picked up a 59-50 victory to close out the weekend.
FIU trailed MSU 28-21 at halftime, but outscored the Bears 25-8 in the third quarter to earn the 59-50 victory. With the win, FIU improves to 2-6 on the season, while Morgan State drops to 1-9 on the year.
The Panthers were led by sophomore
TaMiracle Taylor, as she scored 17 off the bench to match her career-high. Junior
Paula Orenes also scored in double-figures, adding 11 on the day. It was truly a team effort for the Panthers, as eight players scored baskets for FIU against the Bears. MSU's Adre'onia Coleman led the Bears with 11 points on the day.
FIU and MSU were almost neck and neck in the opening period, with the score at 16-14 in favor of the Bears. The Bears retook momentum in the second quarter however, as MSU pushed its lead to 28-21 at the break.
FIU used an 18-4 run to close the gap and eventually take the lead midway through the third quarter, as the Panthers capped the third quarter with a 46-36 advantage. The Panthers rode the wave of momentum to victory in the fourth quarter, with FIU holding on for the 59-50 win.
