George Mason scored five runs in the ninth inning to defeat FIU 12-8 Monday afternoon at Infinity Insurance Park.
The Patriots (5-10) salvaged one game of the three-game series with the Panthers (9-8).
With the score tied 7-7 in the top of the ninth inning, Garett Driscoll scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. One pitch later, Daniel Brooks hit a three-run home run for the Patriots.
FIU rallied twice to tie the game going into the ninth.
Down 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers got a two-run home run from
Jose Garcia to tie the score. It was Garcia's second homer of the day and his team-leading seventh.
Garcia was 3 for 5 with three RBI.
With FIU trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth, third baseman
Austin Shenton hit a two-out solo home run into the nature preserve in right field to tie it at seven.
Derek Cartaya was 3 for 5 for the Panthers.
Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
FIU heads back to Port Charlotte Wednesday morning for a single game with Rutgers at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The Panthers and Scarlet Knights will play at North Charlotte Regional Park at 3 p.m.
