The Basics
 - The FIU softball team broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the sixth, as the Panthers came from behind to pull out a 4-3 win over Middle Tennessee at Felsberg Field in Miami.  Â
Â
- After the Blue Raiders scored in the top of the first, the Panthers got on the board in the home end of the first inning.
Jackie Schoff (Bradenton, Florida) led off the frame with a single through the left side. She would move over to third where she eventually stole home to make the score 2-1.
Â
- In the bottom of the fourth,
Kayla Whitehead (Perris, California) would drive in both of the Panthers runs, scoring
Jessica Rivera (Miami, Florida) and
Kasandra Castle (Lake Worth, Florida) and tying the game at three apiece with a single to center field. Â
Â
- Rivera started the bottom of the sixth off with a single to left field, and then stole second to get into scoring position. She eventually took advantage of a fielding error to score the go-ahead run from third.
Â
-
Shannon Saile (Land O'Lakes, Florida), who came in relief of
Megan Kugelmann (Merritt Island, Florida) to start the sixth inning, struck out two while walking just one, in two innings to get the win. Kugelmann gave up nine hits, leading to three runs, while striking out two and walking one. Â

Saturday, April 14 | Miami, Florida | Felsberg Field
Â
 - The Panthers earned the Saturday sweep with a 7-2 win over the Blue Raiders in game two of the three-game series.Â
Â
 - FIU jumped on Middle Tennessee in the first inning scoring four runs, which would be all the Panthers would need. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first,
Julia Gilbert (Rialto, California) connected on her second home run of the season, a grand slam to left field. Â
Â
 - The Blue Raiders didn't help their cause at all going down in order in the first three innings. Middle Tennessee would plate its only two runs of the game in the top of the fourth.Â
Â
- Saile threw a two-hit complete game with nine strikeouts, while only walking one for the win and improving to 15-8 on the year.
