Southern Miss scored eight runs in the seventh inning en route to a 13-1 win over FIU Sunday afternoon at Infinity Insurance Park.
The Golden Eagles (24-11, 10-4 Conference USA) took two of three games from the Panthers (17-19, 7-8 C-USA).
Ahead 5-1 in the top of the seventh, USM sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. Due to the Conference USA Sunday travel 10-run rule, the game ended after seven innings.
FIU scored its run in the fourth inning.
Eddie Silva doubled and scored on an RBI single by
Christian Khawam. Silva was 2 for 3.
Nick MacDonald (2-3) started for FIU and went six innings, allowed nine hits, six earned runs and struck out a season-high nine batters.
On deck, FIU travels to San Antonio next weekend to take on UTSA. The Panthers and Roadrunners open a three-game series Friday at 7 p.m. EDT from Roadrunner Field.
