FORT MYERS – Florida Gulf Coast scored three runs in the third inning and held on to defeat FIU, 4-3, Wednesday night at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers.
The Eagles (31-12) took the season series from the Panthers (21-24) by winning both meetings.
Richie Garcia's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning off FIU starter
Will Saxton (1-2) broke a 1-1 tie. FGCU added another run on a fielder's choice RBI groundout by Kohl Gilmore.
FIU opened the scoring in the first inning.
Logan Allen doubled down the right field line and later scored on an error by Garcia.
Down 4-1 in the eighth, the Panthers got within one run.

Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. walked. After a wild pitch moved up the Panthers baserunners 90 feet,
Seth Cannady lined a single to left field, driving in both runners.
Allen was 2 for 5.
Austin Shenton was 2 for 4.
On deck, FIU returns home to host Florida Atlantic in a three-game series beginning Friday. The first pitch for the series opener is at 7 p.m. from Infinity Insurance Park.
