NORFOLK, Virginia (Jan. 12, 2019) – The FIU women's basketball team had three players score in double-figures, but the scoring couldn't overcome Old Dominion on the road as the Panthers fell to the Monarchs, 95-68.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 3-14 overall and 0-4 in C-USA action. ODU moves to 11-5 on the year and 2-2 in league play.
The Panthers fell behind early on Saturday, after trailing 28-13 following the first period and couldn't recover from the deficit.
FIU had three players in double-figures, with Chelsea Guimaraes leading the way with 15, while Cabria Lee and Ce'Nara Skanes added 13 and 12 receptively.
ODU was led by Victoria Morris, who scored 23 on the night. The Monarchs made a school-record 14 treys in the game.
The Panthers gave up 28 points in the opening quarter, as the Monarchs built a 15-point lead after the first 10 minutes. After another 20-point quarter for ODU in the second period, the score stood at 53-20 at the break.
FIU came out of the locker room and was neck-and-neck with ODU in the third period, as the Panthers were only outscored 24-20 for the quarter. Continuing the trend of the much-improved second half, the Panthers matched the Monarchs after each team scored 18 points for the period but it wasn't enough as FIU fell, 95-68.
