MIAMI (Jan. 17, 2019) – Despite scoring a season high in points, FIU was unable to overcome WKU as the Panthers fell 94-82 to the Hilltoppers on Thursday afternoon at home.
With the loss, FIU is 3-15 overall and 0-5 in league play, while WKU improves to 10-8 overall and 4-0 in C-USA action on the year.
FIU had five players score in double-figures, with
Chelsea Guimaraes leading the way with 16 on the day. The double-figure effort was her team-leading ninth of the season.
Paris Netherly (13),
Ce'Nara Skanes (12),
Paula Orenes (10) and
Kylee O'Hara (10) each scored in double-figures on Thursday. WKU's Dee Givens scored 31 points to lead the Hilltoppers.
The first quarter saw six combined 3-pointers, with the Panthers making four of their own and taking a 22-21 lead to close out the period. The Panthers and Hilltoppers continued with the high-scoring trend, as the score sat at 43-42 in favor of WKU at halftime. The 42 points and six made treys were first-half highs for the Panthers this season.
WKU pulled away coming out of the locker room as the Hilltoppers scored 34 points to swing momentum in their favor.The Panthers rallied in the final period of action on Thursday after outscoring the Hilltoppers, 23-17, but it wasn't enough as FIU fell by a final score of 94-82.
