MIAMI (Jan. 19, 2019) – The FIU women's basketball team capped a two-game homestand with a 86-58 loss against Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, FIU is 3-16 overall and 0-6 in C-USA play, while Marshall improves to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in league action on the year.
FIU was led by its post players
Ce'Nara Skanes and
Chelsea Guimaraes who each scored in double-figures. Skanes earned a career-high 18 points while,
Chelsea Guimaraes scored 14 points on the afternoon. Marshall's Shayna Gore scored 26 after making six shots beyond-the-arc to lead the Herd.
Marshall took the first quarter by just three points with a 17-14 advantage. Coming into the second quarter, FIU used an 11-0 run to take back the lead, but it was short-lived as the Herd recaptured the lead at 32-29 going into halftime. Marshall came out strong during the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 31-13 and widening the gap heading into the fourth quarter, as the Herd posted 23 points to take an 86-58 victory.
