LEXINGTON, VA (Jan 19, 2019)Â - The FIU Track & Field team concluded its second weekend of indoor competition with a number of impressive performances at the Keydet Invite in Lexington, VA, hosted by VMI Friday and Saturday.

Queshun Watson-Riggins followed up an impressive debut last week with two top five finishes, including a third place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.65m (22'9 ¾"). The freshman also placed fifth in the long jump, with a leap of 6.95m (22'9 ¾").

Sherilene Gelderblom, in her first action of the indoor season, placed second in the women's mile, crossing the line in 5:05.14, her first indoor mile since February 9, 2018 at Grand Valley State.

Royer Baez put up an impressive performance in the men's 1,000m, placing first in his heat, and 6
th out of 20 with a personal best of 2:32.15.

The Panther relay teams had a solid day in Lexington, with the DMR squad of Gelderblom,
Sydne Grier,
Sabrina Quijano, and Rahel Gebretsadik putting up a 3
rd place finish out of 9 teams, while the 4x800 tandem of
Daira Deicmane, Grier, Gebretsadik, and Shelby Cutchineal placed 3
rd as well.

In the women's 3000,
Brittany Watson nearly cracked the top ten, finishing in 11
th with a time of 10:24.72.

The Panthers will now prepare for their next competition, the IU Relays, taking place January 25-26 in Bloomington, IN.
