MIAMI (Jan. 5, 2019) – The FIU women's basketball team fell to UAB on Saturday afternoon 83-59, closing out the opening weekend in Conference USA play.
With the loss, FIU drops to 3-12 on the season and 0-2 in league play, while UAB improves to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in C-USA action.

Shante Walker scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Panthers, while
Chelsea Guimaraes added 12 on Saturday afternoon. UAB's Rachael Childress scored 24 points, while making six treys to add to her impressive day. UAB made 12 treys overall as a team on Saturday.
The Panthers scored Saturday's first two baskets to earn a short-lived 4-0 lead, but UAB used a 10-0 run to take control of the game. FIU trailed only 19-16 after the first period, but UAB bounced back to outpace the Panthers and take a 41-29 lead into halftime. Coming out of halftime, UAB stretched its lead to push its advantage to 18 points, before closing out the game and earning a 83-59 victory.
