MIAMI (Oct. 9, 2019) – In between Miami evening showers on Wednesday night, the FIU baseball team hosted over 50 professional scouts for Scout Day 2019.
"The guys were actually performing at a very high level and I was really proud of them," head coach
Mervyl Melendez said. "We could've just stopped everything and there could've been excuses why the ball was slippery and such, but they did a really good job."

"I think they did exceptionally well and the pitching looked really well," senior infielder
Derek Cartaya said. "The batters were hitting a ton of balls out, which is always a good thing to show power, so I think it went really well."
The session lasted about two hours with players showing off their fielding, hitting and pitching skills.
"I think myself and all the other pitchers were just trying to come out here and showcase that we can throw hard," 2019 All-Conference USA selection
Logan Allen said. "I think everyone rose to the occasion when they saw the scouts back there and they knew they had to rise up and show their stuff."
The Panthers return a veteran core of talented players in 2020, supplemented with another highly-touted recruiting class. FIU will seek a return to postseason action for the first time since 2015 once the baseball season rolls around in February.
