CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 15, 2019) - After two days of competition, the FIU swim team sits in third place out of 44 teams at the 2019 CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
The Panthers currently have 309 points after Friday's action, with Rice in second at 390 points, and Akron holding the top spot at 410 points. For full results from Cleveland, click

"Once again, the ladies brought the energy and it showed in their performances in the finals tonight," Head Coach
Randy Horner said. "I'm learning a lot about this group this weekend."
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Melannie Vargas,
Sara Gyertyanffy,
Stephanie Hussey and
Paloma Sanchez started off the scoring with a second-place finish in a time of 1:38.35. Hussey individually followed that up with a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM after clocking a time of 4:20.25, with
Holly Shepherd not far behind in ninth at 4:21.13.
Gyertyanffy continued her strong day with a notable performance in the 100 breaststroke, placing second with a time of 1:01.32 to earn 21 points.
Carita Luukkanen was a split-second behind, finishing fourth with a mark of 1:01.74.
"They are racing hard and have a lot of fight," Horner said. "One more day - it should be a strong one for us as a team."
Shepherd concluded the individual competition on the evening with a 10th-place finish in the 100 backstroke at 55.63. In the final relay on the day, FIU placed fourth in the 800 freestyle, with a time of 7:19.56.
