MIAMI (March 31, 2019) – The FIU softball team fell to North Texas on Sunday afternoon, as the Panthers suffered the sweep to the Mean Green to close out the weekend.
FIU fell 13-4 to North Texas, as the game was called after the fifth inning due to the run rule. With the loss, FIU falls to 18-18 overall and 0-9 in C-USA play, while North Texas improves its record to 21-12 and 10-2 on the year.
Allison Muraskin started the game and pitched one inning, allowing four runs as she picked up the loss.
Alexys Lawson made her first appearance in the circle at home, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing three runs to close out the game.
At the plate, senior
Natalie Orcutt and junior
Jessica Rivera each went 2-for-3 with an RBI. At the nine spot, freshman
Alexis Johns went 2-for-2 and scored two runs.
Jackie Schoff and
Tori Jones each collected a hit as well to round out the order.
North Texas jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the Panthers plated three runs in the bottom half of the third inning. The Mean Green stole two runs back in the next half inning, as North Texas pushed its lead to 12-3 in the fourth. The two teams traded a run over the next two frames, as the final score sat at 13-4 and was called via run rule after the fifth.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will now turn their attention to Boca Raton as FIU takes on FAU next weekend on April 6-7.
