Panther Aces Pitch Complete Games for Saturday Sweep

FIU downs Stony Brook and ECU to cap Saturday

MIAMI (March 9, 2019) – Behind a pair of stellar pitching performances by Allison Muraskin and Megan Kugelmann on Saturday, the Panthers earned a sweep on the second day of the FAU/FIU Invitational.

The Panthers opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Stony Brook, before taking a 2-1 decision over East Carolina to close out the day. FIU has gone 3-1 so far on the weekend to move its record to 17-7 on the year.

Sophomore Muraskin pitched a complete game shutout in Saturday's first contest, after allowing just two hits and fanning seven batters to move her record to 5-4 overall. In the night capper, senior Kugelmann allowed just two hits to improve to 6-1 overall.

Rebecca Koskey and Jessica Rivera each went yard on Saturday, with Koskey hitting her third of the season and Rivera smashing her fourth.

The Panthers cap the weekend-long FAU/FIU Invitational on Sunday, hosting Long Island at 2:15 p.m. ET. Live stats can be found here. Behind Muraskin's complete game shutout, the Panthers took their first game of the day over Stony Brook, 3-0. FIU got the scoring started in the second inning, after Koskey blasted her third homer of the year over the left field wall. A pair of singles would plate two more runs in the fifth inning, following a pair of hits by Schoff and Johns to give FIU the eventual 3-0 win.

In the second game, FIU jumped in front out again via the long ball as Jessica Rivera hit her fourth homer of the season to put the Panthers ahead 1-0 in the second inning. ECU broke up Kugelmann's no-hitter in the fourth inning, before a throwing error would plate a Pirate and tie the game.

FIU would score the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, after a throw from right field sailed into the ECU dugout to score Kallie Jones and put the Panthers on top, 2-1.
