The Basics
- The No. 9-ranked – and third seeded – FIU beach volleyball team returned to the court on Friday for the first day of the 2019 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Tournament at the Lakepoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Georgia. The Panthers, got their pool play off to a good start, going 2-0 against the 10-seed UAB (5-0) and No. 19 – and 10
th seeded – Florida Atlantic (3-2). FIU closes the day with a 16-10 record on the year, and winners of four of its last five and five of its last seven.

- FIU made quick work of UAB in its first dual of pool play in Emerson. The Panthers whipped off three straight-set wins on courts four, five and three.

Katie Friesen and
Helene Thelle on court five.
Abbie Hughes and
Ali Denney secured the dual win with a 21-17, 21-16 win on court three.

- The Panthers dropped their first two matches of the tournament, in their dual against Florida Atlantic, however those came after FIU already secured the dual win. The Blue and Gold jumped out to a 3-0 lead with straight-set wins on courts four, one and three.
- Like in the first dual against UAB,
Lina Bernier and
Erika Zembyla earned the first point on court four with a 21-13, 21-11 win.
Federica Frasca and
Margherita Bianchin took their second match of the afternoon with a 21-18, 21-17 victory. Again, like the morning dual against the Blazers,
Abbie Hughes and
Ali Denney posted the winning point, on court three, 21-19, 21-19.
