MIAMI (May 17, 2019) – The FIU baseball team fell to Louisiana Tech on Friday night by a score of 5-2, as the Techsters secured the series win over the Panthers ahead of the regular-season finale on Saturday.
FIU and LT will return to the diamond on Saturday for the regular-season finale, with the game serving as Senior Day for
Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. The game is slated for 11 a.m. ET start due to a C-USA mandated time change.
With the loss on Friday night, the Panthers fall to 22-32 on the year and 11-18 in C-USA play. LT improves to 34-21 and 17-12 on the year.
Nick MacDonald was dealt the loss on the mound, after surrendering two earned runs in four innings of work. David Leal earned the victory after pitching seven innings and allowing just one run.
Jarrett Ford led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double in the lead-off spot.
Danny Perez hit his second career homer as well, while
Austin Shenton earned a walk in the first inning to reach base safely now for 28-straight games.
After LT scored a run in the top half of the first, the Panthers bounced back to tie the game at 1-1 after
Jose Garcia's grounder brought home Ford. The Techsters scored four runs scattered over the third and fourth innings however, to take a 5-1 lead. That score would stand until Perez went deep for a two-out homer in the ninth inning, bringing the final margin to 5-2.
