MIAMI (Feb. 7, 2020) - After a tight back-and-forth contest on Friday night, the FIU softball team fell to Penn State by a slim margin of 4-2.
Friday's game was tied 2-2 in the final frame, before PSU plated two runs in the top of the seventh to earn the eventual 4-2 victory.
FIU's record falls to 1-1 on the year, while PSU improves to 2-0 after a pair of wins on Friday. FIU was originally scheduled to play Michigan State following the game against PSU, but the game was scrapped after rain pushed back the day's schedule earlier on Friday morning.
FIU's
Kendahl Dunford went six innings in the loss, allowing two earned runs and striking out a pair of batters.
Jocelyn Alonso and
Alexis Johns each tallied a pair of hits on the night to lead FIU at the plate.
Jessica Rivera and Alonso each earned an RBI on Friday night, to push their season totals to four and three on the year.
KEY STAT
FIU again had a good average with runners in scoring position as the Panthers hit .444 (4-9), but the Nittany Lions were perfect (3-3) with runners on third and less than two outs.
UP NEXT
FIU faces Syracuse on Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers and Orange are slated to play at 3:00 p.m. ET.
