Chue Breaks Another FIU Record; Swim & Dive Finishes Third Overall at Purdue Invite

Panthers tally 610 points and place ahead of Power 5 foe Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Nov. 20, 2021) – The FIU women's swimming and diving team capped the final day of the Purdue Invitational with more record-breaking performances and NCAA qualifying marks, while the Panthers tallied a total of 610 points as a team and finished in third place overall.

"The ladies had a great meet," said Head Coach Randy Horner. "They rallied hard and I'm very proud of them. We definitely have some hopes to do some great things going down the stretch. This is a stepping stone. I think we have some belief of the ladies doing some big things on the national stage after performing as well as we did this weekend."

After seeing program records in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.42), the 100 butterfly (52.85), and the 100 breaststroke (59.88) on Day Two of the Purdue Invite, FIU saw another record broken in the 200 breaststroke on Day Three.


Chue posted an FIU program-record time of 2:10.74 in the 200 breaststroke prelims, before resetting the record again with a second-place time of 2:08.66 in the A Final. Chue also made NCAA B Standard cuts in the event.

On the diving side, Maha Gouda finished third in the Platform A Final with a total of 283.5 points, which marked an NCAA Zone qualifying score. 


Stephanie Hussey had another nice day, posting an NCAA B Standard time of 1:58.19 in the 200 butterfly while finishing fifth in the A Final.

On the only relay of the day, the Panther group of Hussey, Elinah Phillip, Sara Gyertyanffy, and Chue swam to third place with a time of 3:17.85 in the 400 freestyle A Final.

Kelsie Campbell posted a time of 2:02.29 in the 200 backstroke to place seventh in the A Final, while Julia Miranda placed first in the B Final with a time of 1:58.08.

In the 100 freestyle A Final, Gyertyanffy posted a time of 49.53 to take fifth place.

Delaine Goll recorded a mark of 2:14.47 in the 200 breaststroke A Final for seventh place, while Ellie Maradyn swam a time of 2:20.78 in the B Final.

Mia Zahab and Kasia Kolodziej placed fifth and seventh in the 200 butterfly B Final with times of 2:02.10 and 2:05.25, respectively.

Maradyn also placed tenth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:11.45.

UP NEXT

The Panthers return to the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center for a Conference USA dual-meet against Marshall on Friday, Dec. 17. Events are set to begin at 11 a.m. ET against the Thundering Herd.
