MIAMI (Feb. 18, 2021) - After a 3-0 weekend to open the season, the FIU softball team hits the road for Fort Myers as the Panthers take part in the FGCU Tournament. 

FIU will face UConn on Friday, Feb. 19, with first pitch slated for 1:15 p.m. The Panthers take on Northern Illinois (11:00 a.m.) and UConn (4:15 p.m.) on Saturday to continue the series, while facing Northern Illinois (9:00 a.m.) once more on Sunday before closing out the road trip against FGCU (2:00 p.m.).

This weekend's games were adjusted in anticipation for inclement weather moving into the Fort Myers area on Friday night.

LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, reigning Conference USA Player of the Week Venessa Gallegos led FIU to a 3-0 weekend with wins over FAU and Winthrop, including a walk-off, three-run homer versus Winthrop to close out her stellar weekend at the plate. Gallegos hit .700 for the weekend, with 10 RBI, two doubles, a home run and two stolen bases. In three appearances on the weekend, Kendahl Dunford earned a pair of wins and posted a 1.27 ERA with seven strikeouts in the circle. 

SCOUTING THE FOES
This weekend's games will be the first of the year for UConn and Northern Illinois, while FGCU enters the weekend at 1-3 after its opening weekend series with ranked-UCF. The three opponents for this weekend went a combined 42-28 in 2020.

UP NEXT
FIU travels to Clermont, Florida on Feb. 26-28 for the Spring Games Tournament to continue their road swing in the Sunshine State. The Panthers battle Kentucky, New Mexico State and Stetson next weekend.
