BOCA RATON, Florida (May 2, 2021) – To conclude the season series with the FAU Owls, the FIU baseball team fell 9-8 and 3-1 on Sunday.
In game one,
Justin Farmer stayed red hot after driving in three of FIU's eight runs by going 3-for-5 with a RBI double and a two-run home run. The homer was Farmer's team-leading eighth of the season and fourth in the last six games.
Dante Girardi aided in the Panther attack going 3-for-4, while driving in a pair of this own.
FIU jumped out to a 4-0 advantage before FAU scored the next seven runs to lead 7-4 after two. The Panthers stormed back to tie it at seven-all at the end of three before the two South Florida foes traded runs in the fourth to make it 8-8.
The Owls claimed the victory in the bottom of the ninth with an extra inning walk-off sacrifice fly to take it 9-8.
In game two, the lone Panther run came off the bat of
Alec Sanchez for his fourth home run of the 2021 campaign in the top of the first.
FIU threatened in the seventh with back-to-back singles before the Owl pitching staff sealed the Sunday evening 3-1 victory with a groundout.
