BIRMINGHAM, ALA (January 14, 2022) - The FIU track and field program opened up the 2022 campaign competing at the UAB Blazer Invite on Friday in Birmingham. 

Atene Slizeviciute highlighted FIU's day in her Panther debut, placing second in the high jump with a mark of 1.71m, just outside the FIU all-time top five list. 

"It's great to be back out on the track, and I was impressed by a number of performances today," said head coach Ryan Heberling. "Now we focus our attention on Saturday and continuing to compete at a high level." 

Junior Kristin Lubeskie set a personal best in the pole vault to place sixth with a mark of 3.91m, while second-year freshman Michaelle Valentin had an impressive performance in the throws, setting personal bests in the shot and weight throw, placing seventh in the latter. 

The Panthers are back in action Saturday morning for the UAB Vulcan Invitational.
