FIU Drops Weekend Opener To Louisiana Tech

Panthers look to even series on Saturday

RUSTON, Louisiana (March 25, 2022) – The FIU baseball team fell 12-2 to the homestanding Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Friday night.
 
Alec Sanchez tallied his team-leading seventh multi-hit game in the series opener collecting two hits including a double to left center in the first to help set up the first Panther run. Robert Sotolongo singled to lead off the top of the sixth to extend the outfielder's on-base streak to 16 games.
 
The duo of Adrian Figueroa and Dante Girardi also had base hits on the evening.
 
FIU opened the scoring in the top of the first when Girardi singled back up the box to score Sanchez and gave the Panthers an early advantage after one inning.
 
La Tech then plated seven unanswered runs before Sotolongo scored on a Bulldog throwing error to cut the lead to 7-2.
 
The Bulldogs answered with five runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 12-2 final.
 
Panther starter Ryan Cabarcas was tagged with the loss after surrendering five earned runs over five innings of work with five strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT
FIU and La Tech will play in game two of the weekend set on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. ET.
