MIAMI, Fla (March 27, 2022) - Rhema Otabor broke her own school record in the javelin at the Texas Relays, as FIU track and field saw a number of impressive performances in Austin, as well as the UCF Knights Invite and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational.

Otabor's throw of 56.07m was second at the meet, and gives the sophomore the top mark in Conference USA, and third in the NCAA.

"What a terrific debut for Rhema," said head coach Ryan Heberling. "Coming off making it to the outdoor championships last year, this was a great way to set the tone for the upcoming season."

Junior Queshun Watson-Riggins also excelled in Austin, placing eighth in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump, marks that give him the top ranking in C-USA, and currently the 13th best long jump in the NCAA.

In Coral Gables at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, Filippa Miller equaled her personal best jump and school record jump in the pole vault of 4.15m, earning the victory over a field that included athletes from Michigan, Harvard, Eastern Michigan, and St. John's.

Tyler Rhodes followed his victory last week with a sixth place finish in a field of 19 competitors, running 14.44 in the 110 hurdles.

Desmond Dorecus' throw of 17.19m in the shot put set a personal best, and places him second all-time in FIU outdoor history, behind Luka Mustafic's throw of 17.98m at UCF in 2015.

In Orlando, Emilie Christiansen earned a fourth place finish in the 5000m, running 17:44 to place fourth of 22 runners, and Lisa Adjouadi set a 1500 personal best.

FIU will now gear up to compete at the Florida Relays, taking place March 31 - April 2.
