MIAMI (April 6, 2022) – To open a midseason four-game road trip, the FIU baseball team dropped a midweek contest 17-1 to the No. 8 Miami (FL) Hurricanes.
Third baseman
Noel Perez singled in the third and fifth innings to extend his hit streak to five games. The Panther foursome of
Steven Ondina,
Alec Sanchez,
Jayden Melendez and
Bryan Loriga each had a base hit on the evening.
Freshman
Gabriel Perez singled in the top of the ninth for the first hit of his FIU career.
The Hurricanes jumped out to a 15-0 lead before Melendez scored on an Ondina RBI groundout to get the Panthers on the board in the top of the eighth.
Panther starter
Christian Santana gave up six runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work and was handed the loss.
UP NEXT
FIU returns to Conference USA play on Friday as the Panthers head to Kentucky for a three-game series with the WKU Hilltoppers at 6 p.m. ET.
