FIU Women's Hoops Back at Home to take on Charlotte on STEAM-Weather Day

The Panthers Won their previous Matchup against the 49ers, 71-63

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU women's basketball team returns home for a two-game slate as they host the 2022 Conference USA Champions, Charlotte 49ers, this Thursday at 11 a.m. inside the Ocea Bank Convocation Center.

Thursday, Feb.2 vs Charlotte (9-10, 5-5 C-USA) The Panthers (10-10, 5-6 C-USA) enter Thursday's contest against the 49ers in seventh place in the Conference USA standings with a 8-5 record at home and look to snap a two-game losing streak.
 
FIU's offense is fourth in C-USA averaging 70.25 points per game and fourth in the league with 121 three pointers made averaging 6.05 per game.
 
In FIU's last road trip, senior guard Kaliah Henderson continued her double-digit point streak reaching six games after scoring 30 points off the bench in both games combined.

Henderson is FIU's leading scorer averaging 13.6 points per game, the seventh best scoring mark in Conference USA. On the defensive end, Henderson is fifth in the conference with 39 steals averaging 1.95 per game. Redshirt freshman Sifa Joyeuse is second on the Panthers averaging 10.6 points per game (18th in C-USA), and is fourth in the conference with 39 threes made this season.
 
The Panthers enter tomorrow's game against Charlotte second in the conference in rebounds averaging 40.75 per game, and they are also first in C-USA averaging 15.85 offensive boards each contest (317 total).

Senior center Hope Butera is FIU's leading rebounder averaging 5.8 per game, (10th in C-USA). Butera continues to find success on the offensive glass and is second in the conference averaging 2.75 offensive rebounds per game and second in the league with 55 total.

Defensively, the Panthers are second in the conference with 206 steals this season averaging 10.30 per game and second in causing 19.90 turnovers per game for opposing teams. Sophomore guard Tanajah Hayes leads the conference in steals averaging 2.63 steals per game, and also leads FIU averaging 3.8 assists per game (5th in C-USA).
 
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
The 49ers enter Thursday's matchup 9-10 on the season, including a 5-5 mark in Conference USA, and riding a two-game win streak.
 
The last time Charlotte played, they earned a victory over conference opponent, Rice, 66-62. Their last loss was against Middle Tennessee, 65-41, on Jan. 19. Charlotte is last in the conference averaging 60.47 points per game on 40.9 percent shooting, including an average of 4.16 threes per game on 31.3 percent beyond the arc.
 
The 49ers have three players averaging double digit points headlined by redshirt sophomore guard Dazia Lawrence with 15.8 points (6th in C-USA) while fifth year guard Mikayla Boykin is second averaging 15.6 points and paces them with 6.8 rebounds per game. Fifth year guard Jada McMillian rounds off the trio with 11.8 points and leads C-USA logging 5.1 assists per game.
