MIAMI (Mar. 2, 2023) – Baseball is back at FIU Baseball Stadium this weekend for a four-game set against Harvard.
Game one is on Friday March 3 with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday March 4 will feature a doubleheader with the first game starting at 2 p.m. and the second game set to begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The series finale is set for Sunday March 5 at 1 p.m.
LEADING OFF
Through the first nine games of the season the top of the FIU order has delivered.
In the leadoff spot, redshirt senior
Mike Rosario is hitting .313 with 10 hits, a team-high two home runs and four RBI.
At the two-spot, redshirt senior
Alec Sanchez is hitting .314, with 11 hits, two doubles, a stolen base and a homerun. Sanchez also opened the season with a six-game hitting streak and has four multi-hit games this season.
Junior
Dante Girardi has been a fixture in the third spot in the lineup. He has an OBP of .316 with six hits, is tied for the team-lead in walks with six and has touched home plate a team-high seven times.
Cleanup hitter
Ryne Guida has been FIU's top bat early in the season. He leads FIU in hits with 13, average at .382, doubles with three and RBI with 11.
STATEMENT MADE
Redshirt junior
Henry Wallen has become a regular in the lineup since transferring from the University of Miami.
He has shown great defensive acumen at third base and demonstrated his hitting potential against Florida Gulf Coast. He went 2-4 against the Eagles with six RBI and a grand slam.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard is 1-3 after opening the season with four games against Pittsburgh at the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
Senior Logan Bravo has had a strong start to the season for the Crimson going 5-15, holding a team-best .333 average, with two doubles and two RBI. He has picked up at least one hit in all four games this season.
Junior Chris Clark has had a strong start to the season. In his first start he went six innings, allowed only two hits, struck out 10 batters and has an ERA of 0.00.
FIU leads the all-time series 8-1. FIU won the last meeting 13-6 when the sides meet in Miami in 2007.
UP NEXT
The Panthers continue their homestand on Wednesday March 8 when they welcome Stetson to Miami. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
