Baseball Set to Face No. 19 Florida Gulf Coast

Panthers battle first ranked opponent of 2023

MIAMI (Mar. 21, 2023) – Baseball is back at FIU Baseball Stadium on Wednesday March 22 for a midweek matchup against No. 19 Florida Gulf Coast. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
 
HITTING ON ALL CYLINDERS
FIU currently boast seven players hitting above .290 after 21 games.
 
Junior Dante Girardi has been on a tear as of late, currently on a 11-game hit streak. He has raised his average to a team-best .351, is fourth on the team in hits with 26, has reached home a team-high 23 times, has the most walks with 16 and has racked up 10 RBI.
 
Junior Ryne Guida sits second in average and hits at .338 and with 27, respectively. His 27 RBI rank third in Conference USA.
 
Junior Adrian Figueroa is hitting .329, is second in RBI with 19 and hits with 27.
 
Leadoff man Mike Rosario is hitting .322 and leads the team in hits, home runs and steals with 28, four and 10, respectively. His 10 steals rank second in the conference.
 
Redshirt senior Alec Sanchez returned to the lineup last week and has picked up where he left off. He is currently on a three-game hitting streak, going 5-14 against Dallas Baptist with a home run and two RBI.
 
Redshirt junior Henry Wallen is hitting .298 through 16 appearances. He has 17 hits, two home runs and 16 RBI this season.
 
IN BUNCHES
The Panthers offense continues to deliver in this season.
 
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 144 runs across 21 games.
 
They have scored at least five runs in 12 games and reached double digits five times.
 
The Panthers are 9-3 in games which they score at least five runs.
 
FIU has not been shutout in 2023.
 
FLAMETHROWERS
Redshirt senior Angel Tiburcio has been near perfect over his last four starts.
 
In the last 15 innings he has allowed only two runs, four walks and has struck out 13 batters. Tiburcio is 2-1 on the season and sports a team-best 2.57 ERA.
 
Redshirt junior Ryan Cabarcas has been the Panthers ace since the start of the season.

Through six starts he leads the team in innings pitched at 23.1, has struck out the third most batters in C-USA with 35 and has issued only seven walks.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
FGCU is 16-4 this season and are coming off a 2-1 series win over Liberty to open A-Sun play.
 
Senior Alejandro Figueredo leads the Eagles offense. He is hitting .427 with a team-high 35 hits to go with seven home runs and 24 RBI.
 
Junior Mason Miller has been Florida Gulf Coast's top starter in 2023. Through five starts he has pitched 20.1 innings, golds a 1-0 record and leads the team in strike outs with 31.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers continue C-USA this weekend with a home series against University of Alabama-Birmingham. Game one is on Friday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. Fans can also watch the game live on C-USA TV.
