MIAMI (Apr. 18, 2023) – The FIU baseball team returns to FIU Baseball Stadium on Wednesday April 19 for a midweek clash against No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast University. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
THE HITS KEEP ROLLING
FIU currently boasts four starters hitting above .300 after 36 games.
Alec Sanchez has been on an absolute tear since coming back from an early season injury. He leads the team in average at .335 and home runs with nine. He is currently on a five-game hitting streak having gone 10-20 with eight RBI and four home runs. He has hit one home run in each of the last four games.
FIU leadoff man
Mike Rosario is second in average at .349. He leads the team in runs, hits and steals at 41, 51 and 19, respectively.
Junior
Ryne Guida has been the Panthers most consistent hitters in 2023. He is hitting .336 and leads the team in RBI with 34.
Adrian Figueroa has had a hot bat, raising his average to .312. He has registered at least one hit in seven of the last 10 games, including five multi-hit games.
IN BUNCHES
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 240 runs across 36 games.
They have scored at least five runs in 26 games and reached double digits nine times.
FIU has not been shutout in 2023.
LEADERS IN THE PACK
The C-USA stat leader top 10s are littered with Panthers.
Rosario is in the top 10 in nine different categories. He is number nine in average, eighth in OPS, third in runs scored, fourth in hits and leads the conference in stolen bases.
Guida ranks ninth in both hits and RBI.
Sanchez his starting to work his way up the rankings, currently fourth in home runs, and sixth in OPS
In the field, Figueroa and
Girardi have been leading the way.
Girardi leads C-USA in assists with 100.
Figueroa has registered the third most putouts in C-USA with 305.
The duo is the top double play tandem having turned 46 this season.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Florida Gulf Coast is 27-9 this season and is coming off a series loss to Eastern Kentucky.
Sophomore
Edrick Felix has been leading the Eagles potent offense. He is hitting a team-best .392, leads the team in hits, home runs and RBI at 58, 15 and 49, respectively.
Freshman Justin Henschel has been a top arm for FGCU in 2023. In his team-high 39 innings he is 4-0 with a 4.15 ERA and 25 strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Panthers are back at home this weekend to host No. 25 Texas-San Antonio. Game one is set for Friday April 21 with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
