Baseball Falls to MTSU in Epic 25-Run Battle

Panthers back on the road Tuesday to take on Stetson

Box Score Murfreesboro, Tenn. (April 2, 2023) – Baseball wrapped up its series with Middle Tennessee on Sunday losing out 13-12.
 
Mike Rosario had another great game going 4-5 with a home run, two steals and four RBI. He finished the series 11-14 with seven RBI.
 
The Panthers would strike first for a third-straight game and do so with a first inning home run for the second-straight game. With a 3-1 count, Bryan Loriga went opposite field for a solo home run.
 
Middle Tennessee responded with a home run of their own in the bottom half to take the lead, 2-1.
 
The FIU bats stayed hot in the second driving in three more runs.
 
Brendan Roney drove in a run with a single and an error by the MTSU catcher allowed a second score. Freshman Roylan Quevedo was up next and sent a ball into shallow center for an RBI single, pushing the score to 4-2.
 
An FIU error on a pickoff attempt allowed a run to score for the Blue Raiders to cut their deficit to 4-3.
 
Adrian Figueroa added another run with an RBI single in the top of the third.
 
MTSU would tie the game at 5-5 after the fourth inning.
 
In the top of the fifth Henry Wallen delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to put FIU back in the lead.
 
MTSU again had a response jumping out to a 7-6 lead.
 
Dante Girardi would tie the game back up in the top of the sixth with a RBI tripe to right field.
 
FIU regained the lead in the next inning after a double by Rosario pushed home Quevedo.
 
The Blue Raiders were able to manufacture another run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 8-8.
 
The top of the ninth would see FIU take a 12-8 lead.
 
Rosario blasted a no-doubt three home run with Alec Sanchez driving in a fourth with a single.
 
The Blue Raiders would eventually come away with a, 13-12, walk-off win.
 
UP NEXT
Baseball closes out a five-game road trip with a midweek game against Stetson on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
