MIAMI (Apr. 20, 2023) – The FIU baseball team is set to host No. 22 Texas-San Antonio this weekend for a three-game C-USA series. Game one is on Friday April 21 with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
 
THE HITS KEEP ROLLING
FIU currently boasts four starters hitting above .300 after 37 games.
 
Alec Sanchez has been on an absolute tear since coming back from an early season injury.
 
He leads the team in average at .349 and home runs with nine. He is currently on a six-game hitting streak and has reached first base in 19-consecutive games.
 
FIU leadoff man Mike Rosario is second in average at .348. He leads the team in runs, hits and steals at 41, 52 and 19, respectively.
 
Junior Ryne Guida has been the Panthers most consistent hitters in 2023. He is hitting .345 and leads the team in RBI with 34.
 
Adrian Figueroa is hitting .308 this week. He has registered at least one hit in 8 of the last 11 games, including five multi-hit games.
 
IN BUNCHES
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 245 runs across 37 games.
 
They have scored at least five runs in 27 games and reached double digits nine times.
 
FIU has not been shutout in 2023.
 
LEADERS IN THE PACK
The C-USA stat leader top 10s are littered with Panthers.
 
Rosario is in the top 10 in nine different categories. He is number eight in average, eighth in OPS, third in runs scored, fourth in hits and leads the conference in stolen bases.
 
Guida ranks 10th average, sixth in hits and ninth in RBI.
 
Sanchez his starting to work his way up the rankings, sitting at seventh in slugging percentage and tied for fifth in home runs.
 
In the field, Figueroa and Girardi have been leading the way.
 
Girardi leads C-USA in assists with 104.
 
Figueroa has registered the third most putouts in C-USA with 314.
 
The duo is the second ranked double play tandem having turned 46 this season.
 
SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
Texas-San Antonio is 28-9 this season and is coming of a, 5-3, loss to Texas State.
 
Senior Antonio Valdez leads UTSA's offense. He leads the team in average (.400), hits (58), RBI (48) and stolen bases (13).
 
Senior Luke Malone has been a top arm for Texas-San Antonio in 2023. In his team-high 56.1 innings he is 5-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
