Baseball Takes on No. 11 Miami in Final Home Game of 2023

Panthers and Canes complete four-game series Tuesday night

MIAMI (May 15, 2023) – The FIU baseball team plays its final home game on Tuesday May 16 when they host No. 11 Miami. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
 
THE HITS KEEP ROLLING
FIU currently boasts three starters hitting above .300 after 51 games.
 
Junior Ryne Guida has been the Panthers most consistent hitters in 2023. His .362 average, 45 RBI and 72 hits are all a team highs.
 
Alec Sanchez has been on an absolute tear to close out the regular season. He is currently on a 33-game on-base streak. He is hitting .340 and leads the team in home runs with 12 and walks with 25.
 
FIU leadoff man Mike Rosario is third in average at .332. He leads the team in runs and steals at 50 and 20, respectively.
 
IN BUNCHES
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 216 runs across 51 games.
 
They have scored at least five runs in 31 games and reached double digits 10 times.
 
LEADERS IN THE PACK
The C-USA stat leader top 10s are littered with Panthers.
 
Rosario is number six in runs, fifth in hits and is tied for the lead in steals.
 
Guida ranks third average, third in hits and ninth in OPS.
 
Sanchez is starting to work his way up the rankings, sitting 10th in average, seventh in slugging percentage and ninth in home runs.
 
In the field, Figueroa and Girardi have been leading the way.
 
Girardi third in C-USA in assists with 138.
 
Figueroa has registered the fourth most putouts in C-USA with 395.
 
The duo have turned the third most double plays with 61.
 
SCOUTING THE CANES
Miami is 34-17 this season and are coming off a series win over Pittsburg.
 
Junior Yohandy Morales powers the Canes offense. He is leading the team in average and hits at .402 and 76. He is tied for the team lead in RBI with 52 and I second in home runs with 12.
 
Sophomore Gage Ziehl has been a workhorse for the Canes in 2023. In his 75.1 innings he is 7-4 with a 4.78 ERA and 83 strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers close out the regular season with a trip to Houston to take on Rice with a spot in the C-USA Tournament on the line. Game one is on Thursday May 18 with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on C-USA TV.
