MIAMI (May 2, 2023) – The FIU baseball team is back on the road Wednesday May 2 to take on Bethune-Cookman in a midweek in-state rivalry matchup.
 
First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and fans can watch the game live on the CatEye Network.
 
THE HITS KEEP ROLLING
FIU currently boasts four starters hitting above .300 after 43 games.
 
Junior Ryne Guida has been the Panthers most consistent hitters in 2023. His .394 average and 38 RBI are team highs. He is also tied for the lead in hits with 59.
 
Alec Sanchez has been on an absolute tear, currently on a 25-game on-base streak. He is hitting .348 and leads the team in home runs with 10.
 
FIU leadoff man Mike Rosario is third in average at .337. He leads the team in runs and steals at 44 and 19, respectively. He is also tied for the lead in hits with 59.
 
Ruben Carpio has been unstoppable since becoming a regular in the lineup. He is hitting .391 with 27 hits and 22 RBI.
 
IN BUNCHES
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 275 runs across 43 games.
 
They have scored at least five runs in 27 games and reached double digits nine times.
 
FIU has not been shutout in 2023.
 
LEADERS IN THE PACK
The C-USA stat leader top 10s are littered with Panthers.
 
Rosario is in the top 10 in six different categories. He is number six in runs, eighth in hits and leads C-USA in steals.
 
Guida ranks fifth in average and seventh in hits.
 
Sanchez is starting to work his way up the rankings, sitting sixth in average, sixth in slugging percentage and tied for eighth in home runs.
 
In the field, Figueroa and Girardi have been leading the way.
 
Girardi leads C-USA in assists with 120.
 
Figueroa is tied for the third most putouts in C-USA with 350.
 
The duo is tied for the most double plays fielded with 54.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Bethune-Cookman is 21-20 this season and are coming off a series loss to Jackson State.
 
Senior Luis Tuero leads the Wildcats offense with his team leading average and hits at .347 and 52, respectively.
 
Junior Nolan Santos has been a top arm for Bethune-Cookman in 2023. In his team-high 64 innings he is 3-3 with a 4.22 ERA and 91 strikeouts.
