MIAMI (May 9, 2023) – The FIU baseball team heads to Coral Gables on Wednesday to take on No. 11 Miami. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and fans can watch the game live on ACC Network Extra.
THE HITS KEEP ROLLING
FIU currently boasts four starters hitting above .300 after 47 games.
Junior
Ryne Guida has been the Panthers most consistent hitters in 2023. His .362 average, 42 RBI and 67 hits are all a team highs. Guida is also currently on a 12-game hit streak.
Alec Sanchez has been on an absolute tear, currently on a 29-game on-base streak. He is hitting .349 and leads the team in home runs with 11.
FIU leadoff man
Mike Rosario is third in average at .335. He leads the team in runs and steals at 46 and 19, respectively.
Ruben Carpio has had a fantastic second half of the season. He is hitting .333 with 28 hits and 22 RBI.
IN BUNCHES
In 2023 FIU has pushed home 293 runs across 47 games.
They have scored at least five runs in 29 games and reached double digits nine times.
FIU has not been shutout in 2023.
LEADERS IN THE PACK
The C-USA stat leader top 10s are littered with Panthers.
Rosario is number six in runs, eighth in hits and is tied for the lead in steals.
Guida ranks third average and fourth in hits.
Sanchez is starting to work his way up the rankings, sitting seventh in average, seventh in slugging percentage and ninth in home runs.
In the field, Figueroa and Girardi have been leading the way.
Girardi second in C-USA in assists with 126.
Figueroa has registered the third most putouts in C-USA with 387.
The duo is tied for the most double plays fielded with 60.
SCOUTING THE CANES
No. 11 Miami is 31-16 this season and are coming off a series sweep of Presbyterian.
Junior Yohandy Morales is leads the Canes offense in 2023. He is hitting a team-best .390 with 67 hits, 11 home runs and 48 RBI.
Sophomore Gage Ziehl has been a top arm for Miami in 2023. In his 69.2 innings he is 6-4 with a 4.65 ERA and 78 strikeouts.
