Baseball Hosts Wofford in Non-Conference Weekend Action

MIAMI - The FIU baseball program carries their winning streak into the weekend as they take on the Wofford Terriers in non-conference action from FIU Baseball Stadium.

FIU are winners of their last three games heading into the Conference USA bye week, highlighted by a pair of come from behind victories against Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, April 10 in a doubleheader sweep. Game one was an resumption of the suspended April. 2 matchup as the Panthers won 7-6, plating all four runs in the fourth.
 
In game two, FIU walked it off as Nick Pitelli was the hero on a RBI single, lifting the Panthers to a 5-4 victory to secure the midweek sweep.
 
With the victories, FIU is 18-15, while sitting in fifth place in the CUSA standings (7-5).
 
This weekend will be the first time both Wofford and FIU matchup with one another.
 
THOSE BATS DID THEIR THING
In the past five games, FIU has combined for a total of 47 hits and 35 runs.

Overall, on the season, the Panthers have recorded 15 games with 10+ hits as a team, boasting the team batting average to .292 and a team-OPS of .867.
 
As a unit, FIU's offense has been lethal with the bat in CUSA play. In 12 games, they lead the conference in hits (136), and runs (101), while sitting second with a batting average of .323.
 
CARDIAC CATS
The Panthers have always found ways to comeback and make it a ballgame.
 
As a ballclub, FIU has ten come from behind victories including a pair of comeback victories on Wednesday against FGCU. In game one, FIU trailed 6-3 to win 7-6, and game two, FIU were down 1-0 before winning in walk-off fashion.

THEY CALL HIM THE HIT MACHINE
Ryne Guida has continued to be a pivotal piece in the top order of the Panthers lineup as the designated hitter.
 
In all 33 games played, the senior is hitting .322 with 4 HR and 31 RBI (second on team). Guida has reached base in his past 18 games with 21 hits, six doubles and 16 RBIs. The senior logged three hits with five RBI, home run and two doubles in the doubleheader vs Florida Gulf Coast. In game one, he hit a bases clearing double down the left field line that was he eventual go-ahead hit for the win.

MY NAME IS JEFF
The DII transfer Jeff Liquori has been an impactful force in the Panthers lineup, having played in all 33 games primarily in right field.
 
He sits first with 32 RBI driven on the year and second on the team in homers (7). Liquori has bumped his batting average up to .333 after notching 26 hits, 17 RBI, and two doubles, and three HRs in his past 17 games. He currently has hits in 16 of his past 17 games.
 
THAT BALL IS OUTTA HERE
As a collective unit, the Panthers offense has lit up the box score with homers, 45 total as a ballclub. The 45 HRs tied for second overall in Conference USA and 56th in the nation.

The power is led by Kishon Frett, who leads the pack with 10 homers on his campaign.

Alex Ulloa hit a solo shot vs the Eagles, sitting third with (6). Austin Dearing has five, while Guida and Brylan West are tied with four.

200 FOR RYLU!
Lefty Ryan Cabarcas notched an individual accomplishment on Wednesday, earning his 200th strikeout of his collegiate career. Cabarcas struck out the leadoff man in the top of the eighth to notch the strikeout mark. The South Florida native eventually earned his fifth save of the season, working two scoreless innings as he continues his best season of his career.
 
The redshirt senior has lowered his team ERA to 2.22 and leads the team with 39 punchouts.
 
PITCHING MOMENTS
FIU saw notable good outings on the mound vs the Eagles in the pair of games.

In addition to Cabarcas, Zac Lampton worked three scoreless innings in game one with two strikeouts. Starter Cameron Knox got the ball in game two as he shined with three perfect innings, allowing no hits or runs with two strikeouts.
 
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Wofford heads into this weekend's contest with a 22-9 record, off a midweek victory at North Florida this past Wednesday, April 10.

Offensively, Wofford leads the nation in batting average (.354), OBP (.469) and second in the nation in stolen bases (96).
 
Two players are hitting above the .400 mark in Brice Martinez (.421) and Marshall Toole (.415), while six players are hitting over .300. Senior Dixon Black leads the group with 47 runs batted in, ninth in the nation. As a ballclub this season, they have already set program records in steals (13), hits (26), and runs (29).
 
On the mound, Zac Cowan will get the ball Friday night, having made eight starts this season with a 3.38 ERA in 48 innings pitched. The righty's last outing against UNC-Greensboro on April 5, he threw 6.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and struck out eight.
 
Freshman Camden Wicker has posted a 2.08 ERA in 30.1 innings and will make the start on Saturday. He allowed no earned runs with one hit allowed in seven innings against UNC-Greensboro on April 6.
 
Out the bullpen, Kenny Michaels holds a 1.72 ERA, having struck out 23 batters in 15.2 innings thrown. He gave up one earned run in three innings against UNC-Greensboro on April 7.
