Softball Hosts No. 21 Florida Atlantic on Wednesday

Midweek rivalry matchup concludes non-conference play

MIAMI — The FIU softball team (25-11) will conclude non-conference play with a home tilt at Felsberg Field against No. 21 FAU on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Panthers enter the contest having just had their streak of consecutive series victories to open conference play snapped at three this past weekend at Jacksonville State.

Despite the series loss, Paige Miller continued her torrid stretch, accumulating eight hits in the three-game series to push her streak of consecutive games with multiple hits to four.

Miller, who leads the team with a .404 batting average, also produced her third and fourth three-hit games of the season, and she extended her overall hitting streak to six in a row.

Despite having her streak of consecutive games with a stolen base snapped at five to open the JSU series, Kally Meredith swiped a career-best five bases in the second game, and she has 13 stolen bases over the past eight games.

A large reason for Meredith's production on the base paths is her ability to get hits as she now has a five-game hitting streak. She also has at least one hit in 13 of the past 14 games.

FAU
FAU (32-5), which is ranked 21st in the D1softball poll, enters this week's midweek contest having won three straight and 14 of their past 15. Most recently, they swept UTSA by a combined 38-5 score.

FIU and FAU met once earlier this season with the Owls producing a 5-1 win in Boca Raton on Feb. 19. Meredith went 2-for-4 with a run out of the leadoff spot, while the Panthers were unable to overcome a four-run second inning for FAU.

NEXT UP
FIU will continue Conference USA play with a road series at Sam Houston, beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
