MIAMI– Men's basketball is set to kick off the Joey Cantens era with a free exhibition against Murray State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Ocean Bank Convocation Center. You can claim your free tickets at this link, and there will be public live stats during the game.

The Racers, who went 20-13 last season, was chosen as the preseason favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference. FIU and Murray State have met three times in program history, all three Murray State wins, including a home-and-home series in 1992 and 1993 and a win by Murray State in Miami in 2009.

FIU begins 2026-27 with a roster full of newcomers, with 14 new Panthers set to hit the court for the first time. FIU guard Tijan Saine Jr. was named to the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference team ahead of the campaign after his excellent 2025-26 season at Weber State.

FIU will officially open up the season on Nov. 2 against New College of Florida.
