Baseball Welcomes Boston College for Midweek Series

Panthers face off with their first of two ACC opponents of the 2026 season

MIAMI – The FIU baseball program continues their homestand as they host Boston College for a two-game midweek series at FIU Baseball Stadium.

Tuesday, March 3 vs Boston College (5-5)

FIU (7-5) enters the matchup following a weekend split against Stony Brook. The Panthers dropped the opener on Friday, Feb. 27 (11-1), before bouncing back with a thrilling 10-9 walk-off victory Saturday, Feb. 28. Sunday's rubber match (March 1) was canceled due to weather.

The midweek series will mark their third meeting against a Power 4 opponent, facing off with #9 Florida last week and set to take on #24 Miami in the coming weeks.
 
In Saturday's win, Andrew Ildefonso delivered the decisive blow, launching a three-run walk-off homer to secure FIU's seventh victory of the season and its third walk-off home run of the young 2026 campaign.
 
Offensively, FIU has shined as a team, totaling for 111 hits as a ballclub, which ranks third overall in Conference USA. The team has also drove in 103 runs, ranking 36th in the nation and second in CUSA.
 
Samuel Fischer has led the charge on offense, pacing the team with 17 hits (third in CUSA) and a .447 average with an OPS of 1.407. His week at the plate saw him have six hits over four games including a pair of multi-hit efforts with three hits on Feb. 24 with three hits and two hits on Saturday, Feb. 28. The junior has totaled nine RBI, three homer, two doubles and a triple, reaching base in all 12 games this season.

Andrew Ildefonso has started in all 12 games, with a hit each of the games, having driven in 14 RBI with two homers and five doubles. He is second on the team with 15 hits.

Mario Trivella has brought the power, blasting a team-lead of five homers (second in CUSA) and ranks third in the program with 13 RBI. He is hitting .278, playing in all 12 games, including a multi-hit effort on Saturday, Feb. 28 with two RBI, homer and double.

Luca Reyes leads the program with 17 RBI, which is second in CUSA, adding a base hit on Saturday, Feb. 28 vs Stony Brook. His signature this moment came on Saturday, Feb. 21 vs Holy Cross, in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, when he delivered eight RBI — including a walk-off grand slam. The eight-RBI performance marked the most by a Panther since 2024.

Aidan Cohall has 11 hits in 11 games, hitting .314 including logging an RBI double vs Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 28 with two RBI total. He has totaled for ten RBI so far this season.

Behind the dish, Aris Rivera is hitting .313 (5-for-16) with four RBI, including three hits in his last two games, having a RBI single vs Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 28.

FIU's pitching staff has recorded 106 strikeouts over 107 innings pitched, ranking fifth in Conference USA. Jeremy Urena and George Adams lead the team in innings pitched among starters, combining for 25 strikeouts across three starts each.
 
Enrique Sierra, Bryce Turner and Tracen Cameron have each made five appearances out of the bullpen. Sierra most recently tossed two innings Saturday, allowing one earned run with a strikeout.

HISTORY WITH BOSTON COLLEGE
Tuesday and Wednesday will mark the 10th and 11th all-time meetings between the programs, with FIU holding a 5-4 advantage.

The last meeting came March 6, 2012, a 14-6 FIU victory in Miami. The two teams first met in 1993.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College enters the series with a 5-5 record following a series loss to FGCU. The Eagles remain in South Florida this week before opening ACC play at Miami.
 
Offensively, Julio Solier leads the way with 20 hits (19th nationally), including four doubles and two triples. Nick Wang has added three home runs and 13 RBI, while Ty Mainolfi is hitting .395 with 15 hits and four doubles.
 
On the mound, A.J. Colarusso leads the staff with 13.2 innings pitched and 16 strikeouts. Tyler Mudd owns a 2.25 ERA across 12 innings with nine strikeouts, while Gavin Soares has struck out 16 in eight innings over three appearances with two saves. Jacob Burnham carries a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 innings.
