Men's Basketball's Jackson, Stephenson Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Both seniors finished with over 3.50 GPAs

MIAMI– Men's basketball seniors Zawdie Jackson and Corey Stephenson were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, which was announced on Tuesday.

For eligibility, Basketball student-athletes must have competed in 90 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games while maintaining a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA.

Jackson, pursuing his masters in communications, holds a 3.89 GPA. The senior appeared in and started 31 games for the Panthers, having a phenomenal season running the point. He averaged 12.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists, leading the team with 96 total assists.

Jackson scored in double digits 20 times and had three or more assists in 20 of those games, finishing third in the league and third in program history in a single season with his 86.9% free throw percentage and his 133 free throws made were sixth in FIU history.

Stephenson, who is getting his degree in interdisciplinary studies, holds a 3.5 GPA. He just wrapped up one of the best seasons in FIU history, appearing in and starting 31 games, averaging 18.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting over 45 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from three.

The forward was All-Conference Second Team and HoopsHD.com All-CUSA, and his 559 points were the fifth-most in a season in school history, while adding the ninth-most field goals and 10th-most threes in a single season. Overall, his 39.8 3PT% was the second-highest percentage in FIU history, minimum 70 makes as he scored in double digits in all but one game and had 10 20+ point efforts.
