Baseball Hosts Bethune-Cookman in Midweek Contest

Panthers come off a 13-10 victory over DBU on Sunday

MIAMI – FIU's baseball program wraps up its four-game homestand Tuesday evening, hosting reigning SWAC champion Bethune-Cookman at FIU Baseball Stadium.

FIU (14-29) enters following a Conference USA (CUSA) series against Dallas Baptist, highlighted by a come-from-behind 13-10 victory in Sunday's finale. The Panthers erased a three-run deficit with a nine-run eighth inning to salvage the series.
 
Tuesday marks the first of three remaining midweek contests for FIU this season.
 
The Panthers' offense showed life over the weekend, scoring 28 runs on 34 hits across the three-game series, including 23 runs over the final two games. On the year, FIU has totaled 337 hits and 46 home runs—ranking fifth in CUSA—while also being hit by 82 pitches, tied for the conference lead and among the top 35 nationally.
 
Cooper Rasmussen continues to pace the lineup, tied for the team lead with 10 home runs while adding 21 RBI and four doubles. He recorded a hit in each game against Dallas Baptist, including a three-run homer.
 
Mario Trivella has been a major run producer, leading the team with 37 RBI and tying for the team lead with 10 home runs. He enters Tuesday on a six-game hitting streak, including back-to-back multi-hit performances, and delivered a pivotal three-run homer in Sunday's win.
 
Aidan Cohall turned in a strong weekend, collecting five hits, including a three-hit performance Saturday with his first home run of the season. He followed that with a two-run homer in Sunday's victory.
 
Luca Reyes also had a standout stretch, tallying seven hits over his last three games, including a three-hit performance Sunday. The redshirt sophomore added a home run, RBI single, and a double during the week.
 
Samuel Fischer continues to be a consistent presence, starting all 43 games this season. He recorded two hits and three RBI against Dallas Baptist, including the go-ahead two-run single in Sunday's win.
 
Andrew Ildefonso has also started all 43 games, adding two hits in Sunday's victory. He ranks third on the team in RBI (25) and second in doubles (9).
 
Behind the plate, Marc Hersh and Caden Sammler have contributed offensively. Hersh has four hits over his last three games, while Sammler has a hit in seven of his last eight games, highlighted by his first career three-hit game on Saturday.
 
On the mound, FIU has logged 374.1 innings with 339 strikeouts. Preston Prince is coming off another strong outing, tossing 6.1 innings with three earned runs and a career-high 10 strikeouts against Dallas Baptist. He has now recorded three consecutive starts of six or more innings.

Jeremy Urena added 4.2 scoreless innings in Sunday's win, while Julian Mlodzinski leads the team with 48.2 innings pitched across 10 starts. In the bullpen, Jordan Vargas earned the save Sunday, Tracen Cameron picked up the win, and George Adams has totaled 34.1 innings this season.

HISTORY WITH BETHUNE-COOKMAN
Tuesday marks the 83rd all-time meeting between FIU and Bethune-Cookman in a series dating back to 1978.
 
FIU holds a 66-16 advantage and has won 14 of the last 15 matchups. The Panthers claimed a 10-5 win in the first meeting this season in Daytona Beach and earned a 10-0 run-rule victory in the last meeting in Miami.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Bethune-Cookman enters with a 31-13 overall record and a 17-4 mark in SWAC play, coming off a series win at Florida A&M.
 
The Wildcats have been strong in midweek action, earning wins over ranked opponents including LSU and Florida, along with a victory over South Florida.
 
Offensively, Bethune-Cookman is led by Maikol Luenca and Erick Almonte, who share the team lead with 52 hits. Jeter Polledo paces the team with 44 RBI, while Andrey Martinez has totaled eight home runs and 35 RBI. Michael Rodriguez is hitting .394 with 43 hits, and Darryl Lee has recorded 12 doubles.
 
On the mound, Edwin Sanchez leads the staff with a 2.58 ERA over 59.1 innings and 60 strikeouts. Harbersting Abreu has logged 48.2 innings across 11 starts, while Michael Benedict has made six starts. Pablo Torres leads the team with three saves and a 1.86 ERA. Justin Morales owns a 2.78 ERA over 22.2 innings and has competed internationally, while Julian Carrasquilla has struck out 15 over 14.2 innings.
