With nine games remaining in CUSA play, FIU (15-29, 6-15 CUSA) sits just two games back of the ninth and final spot in the CUSA Championships, set for May 20–24 in Kennesaw, Georgia.
The Panthers enter the weekend with momentum, winning two of their last three games, including a 13-10 comeback victory over Dallas Baptist on Sunday, April 26, and an 8-6 win over defending SWAC champion Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday.
Offensively, FIU has totaled 246 hits and 47 home runs as a team, ranking among the top five in CUSA. The Panthers have also been hit by 84 pitches this season, ranking among the top 35 nationally.
Mario Trivella leads the offense with a team-high 11 home runs and 38 RBI, batting .270 across 43 games. He is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak, totaling nine hits, three home runs, seven RBI, and two doubles during that stretch. Trivella delivered a game-tying homer against Bethune-Cookman and a three-run homer in the win over Dallas Baptist.
Andrew Ildefonso continues to be a consistent presence, leading the team with 49 hits and sitting just two shy of 100 career hits entering the weekend. The redshirt sophomore has recorded 27 RBI, five home runs, and 10 doubles across 44 games. He leads the team with 13 multi-hit performances this season and enters the series with back-to-back multi-hit games.
Cooper Rasmussen has anchored the leadoff spot, hitting .286 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 38 games. He recorded a hit in each game against Dallas Baptist and followed that with a two-hit performance, including a double and a two-run single, against Bethune-Cookman.
Aidan Cohall has surged at the plate, recording six hits, six RBI, and two home runs over his last four games. His recent stretch includes a three-hit performance on April 25 and a two-run homer in the series finale win over Dallas Baptist.
Samuel Fischer remains a steady contributor, starting all 44 games this season. He recorded two hits and three RBI in the Dallas Baptist series, including the go-ahead two-run single in Sunday's win. Fischer leads the team with 35 walks and 15 hit-by-pitches.
On the mound, FIU has logged 383.1 innings with 345 strikeouts this season.
Preston Prince is coming off another strong outing, tossing 6.1 innings with three earned runs and a career-high 10 strikeouts against Dallas Baptist. He has now recorded three consecutive starts of six or more innings.
Jeremy Urena added 4.2 scoreless innings in Sunday's win, while
Julian Mlodzinski leads the team with 48.2 innings pitched across 10 starts.
Out of the bullpen,
Jordan Vargas earned a save on April 26 and followed with a win in 2.1 scoreless innings against Bethune-Cookman.
Tyrus Riley has totaled 37 strikeouts across 34 innings, while
Enrique Sierra has logged 34.2 innings this season.
HISTORY WITH DELAWARE
This weekend marks the sixth, seventh, and eighth all-time meetings between the two programs and their first as CUSA opponents following Delaware's addition to the conference.
FIU leads the all-time series 3-2, with the teams last meeting in Miami last season when the Panthers took two of three. The series dates back to 1980 and marks FIU's first trip to Newark.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
Delaware enters the weekend with a 14-31 overall record and a 2-19 mark in CUSA play. The Blue Hens are coming off a series loss to Liberty but earned a 5-4 win in the opener on April 24. They also picked up a 7-5 midweek victory over Delaware State.
Offensively, Evan Bouldin leads the team with a .349 batting average, adding nine home runs, 34 RBI, and 13 doubles. Sal Mineo has appeared in 45 games with seven home runs and 27 RBI, while Anthony DeCesare is hitting .283 with 24 RBI. Jeremy Wolf adds 21 RBI with nine doubles on the season.
On the mound, Ryan McLaughlin has logged 47.1 innings with 34 strikeouts. Chase Deibler has thrown 37.1 innings, while Andrew Callaway leads the bullpen with a 3.06 ERA across 32.1 innings. Ben Moyzan has added 26 innings with 24 strikeouts in relief.
