Men's Basketball Signs Top-150 Recruit Jalan Wingfield

Wingfield becomes second four-star prospect added, ranked no. 108 in freshman class and no. 16 at the forward position

MIAMI– FIU men's basketball added its second four-star recruit ahead of the 2026-27 season, this time announcing the signing of forward Jalan Wingfield (Thomasville, Ga.), a top-150 freshman and four-star (.9168) per 247Sports.

A forward that can put the ball on the floor, create offense, finish around the rim, and defend at a high level, Wingfield was initially committed to Georgia Tech, but reopened his recruitment due to their coaching change. Wingfield has been an elite prospect since entering high school and was a massive part of Tri-Cities HS in Georgia, winning a state championship, being named MVP, and nearly finishing with a 20-20 game in that state championship.

A strong perimeter and interior defender, Wingfield averaged 14.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks as a senior. He led the Bulldogs to the semifinals of the state postseason tournament, and his season included a game of 20 points and 20 rebounds against Langston Hughes to go along with his seven double-doubles.

Wingfield initially chose Georgia Tech over Alabama, Cincinnati and Vanderbilt, according to 247Sports. His father, Dontonio, was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1994 NBA Draft and played four seasons in the NBA.

Wingfield becomes the second four-star recruit added this offseason behind guard Trey Beamer, and the second-highest recruited forward in program history (third overall) behind Dominique Ferguson, who played at FIU in 2011 and 2012.
