Baseball Set for Final Midweek Tests Against Miami and FGCU

FIU takes on Miami on Tuesday in Coral Gables; Hosts FGCU on Wednesday evening

MIAMI – FIU's baseball program closes out its midweek slate with a pair of games against Miami and FGCU on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Tuesday, May 5 at Miami (33-14)

FIU (15-32) travels to Coral Gables for its third and final meeting with the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday, May 5 at 6 p.m., before returning home to host FGCU on Wednesday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at FIU Baseball Stadium. Tuesday's contest will be broadcast on FIUSports.com with Corey Brooks on the call.
 
The Panthers look to bounce back after dropping three straight games, coming off a road sweep at the hands of Delaware. FIU scored 20 runs over the weekend but fell short in its first of two remaining CUSA road series.
 
Offensively, Mario Trivella leads the team, tied for the team lead with 11 home runs and pacing the squad with 39 RBI while batting .271 across 46 games. He has recorded hits in nine of his last 10 games, totaling 13 hits, 10 RBI, three home runs, and a double during that stretch.
 
Andrew Ildefonso leads the team with 51 hits and is batting .267 across 47 games. He has recorded a hit in four of his last five games and notched his 100th career hit on Saturday, May 2. He also ranks second on the team with 11 doubles.
 
Samuel Fischer provided extra-base production in Newark, tallying a triple and a home run, including a three-run shot on Sunday. He has started all 47 games this season and is tied for second on the team with 30 RBI while totaling 14 extra-base hits. Fischer continues to be a strong presence on base, drawing 40 walks and leading the team with 15 hit-by-pitches.
 
At the top of the lineup, Cooper Rasmussen is tied for the team lead with 11 home runs while adding 26 RBI and six doubles. The Temecula, California native collected five hits over the weekend, extending his hitting streak to seven games, highlighted by a three-hit performance and a three-run homer on Sunday.
 
Aidan Cohall has also been heating up, riding a seven-game hitting streak with nine hits, three home runs, 11 RBI, and two doubles during that span. He leads the team with 17 doubles, ranking among the top five in CUSA.
 
In the outfield, Cole Cleveland has appeared in 41 games, driving in 16 RBI with three home runs. He recorded a multi-hit effort on Friday, May 2 at Delaware.
 
Behind the plate, Marc Hersh enters with a five-game hitting streak, totaling six hits and eight RBI, including a three-run homer in Friday's series opener. Enrique Alvarez Jr. has added three hits over his last two games, including a multi-hit performance on Saturday.
 
On the mound, FIU has logged 407.1 innings with 369 strikeouts this season. Preston Prince leads the rotation with 48 strikeouts in 41.1 innings, adding five strikeouts in his last outing at Delaware.
 
Out of the bullpen, Tyrus Riley has appeared in 18 games, posting 37.1 innings with two saves and 37 strikeouts. George Adams turned in a strong relief outing on Saturday, striking out seven across 4.1 innings.

HISTORY WITH MIAMI
Tuesday marks the 144th all-time meeting between FIU and Miami, with the Hurricanes holding a 112-31 advantage in the series. FIU dropped both prior meetings this season, falling 10-3 on March 18 in Miami and 9-7 on April 7 in Coral Gables.

SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Miami enters with a 33-14 record following a series loss at NC State.
 
Offensively, Derek Williams leads the team with 14 home runs and 61 RBI, while Alex Sosa has added 12 home runs and 53 RBI. Brylan West has appeared in all 47 games and driven in 40 runs.
 
On the mound, AJ Ciscar leads the staff with 65.2 innings and 64 strikeouts across 11 starts. Lazaro Collera owns a 4.53 ERA over 33 innings with 37 strikeouts. In the bullpen, Jake Dorn holds a 3.16 ERA in 25.2 innings with 29 strikeouts, while Sebastian Santos-Olsen and Packy Bradley-Cooney provide additional depth.

HISTORY WITH FGCU
Wednesday's game marks the 31st all-time meeting between the two programs, with FGCU holding a 21-9 advantage in the series. The Eagles won both previous matchups this season, including an 11-6 extra-inning win on March 10 in Miami and a 10-9 victory in 12 innings in Fort Myers.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
FGCU enters with a 29-17 record, coming off a road sweep of Stetson.
 
Offensively, Javier Gorostola leads the team with 72 hits, 13 home runs, and 56 RBI. Jon Embury has totaled 52 RBI and 14 home runs while batting .385. Two-way standout Evan Dempsey is hitting .355 with seven home runs, 37 RBI, and a team-high 17 doubles. Wilfred Gonzalez has added 57 hits and 22 RBI.
 
On the mound, Dempsey has also been dominant, striking out 97 batters over 71.2 innings with a 4-2 record. Hunter Possehl holds a 3.48 ERA across 54.1 innings, while Chris Diaz owns a 4.25 ERA in 55 innings. Ashton Pocol leads the team with three saves, with Sebastian Lippman and Preston Rogers contributing out of the bullpen.
