With more than half of its roster comprised of new players the FIU baseball team has such a different look this coming season that you might need to hand out "Hello, My Name is" stickers at the FIU ballpark. Since there are so many new faces, from now until Opening Day on Feb. 16 when Missouri comes to town for a three-game series, we'll profile the newest Panthers as well as the returning FIU ballplayers.
 
Daniel Brown, RHP, Freshman
 
What were you doing last baseball season?

DB: I was playing at Belen. We made it to the regional finals where we lost on a walk-off error. I pitched seven innings in that game. It was a tough loss but we had a good season overall.

What is your best baseball experience?

DB: Beating one of my teammates now at FIU when I was in high school. It was the regional final game against Doral, which Jose Garcia played for. I threw seven innings against Doral and allowed one earned run.

Give me an example of something that makes baseball such a great game.

DB: When Dee Gordon led off with a home run in the first game after Jose Fernandez's death. I was at that game. It was very emotional for everyone in the stands. It was a great baseball moment.



Tell me something away from baseball about you that someone might find interesting?

DB: I did broadcasting at Belen and I continue to pursue it a little bit now.

FIU coach Mervyl Melendez says about Brown:

"Daniel Brown is a sidearmer that will most likely be used as a reliever. He comes from south Laredo which is always difficult to pick up the ball that way."
