With more than half of its roster comprised of new players the FIU baseball team has such a different look this coming season that you might need to hand out "Hello, My Name is" stickers at the FIU ballpark. Since there are so many new faces, from now until Opening Day on Feb. 16 when Missouri comes to town for a three-game series, we'll profile the newest Panthers as well as the returning FIU ballplayers.
 
SETH CANNADY, OF, Freshman
 
What were you doing last baseball season?

SC: I was at Sebring High school where I hit .412. I played center field last season. In my freshman and sophomore years I played first base.

What is your best baseball experience?

SC: When I was 11 and 12 years old I played in the Dixie Youth League and we won the Dixie Youth World Series in Virginia. We won it when I was 11 and 12.

Give me an example of something that makes baseball such a great game.

SC: Derek Jeter's last at-bat at Yankee Stadium. The walk-off single to beat the Orioles. I've always been a Yankees fan. I remember watching that game and that moment and the hair on the back of my neck stood up and still does to this day. You knew it was going to happen that way with Jeter getting the game-winning hit in his last game.



Tell me something away from baseball about you that someone might find interesting?

SC: I grew up on a farm. In Sebring there is not really much to do. It's not a big city. The cows we have on the farm are like pets. The cows will come up to you and you can pet them. They are like dogs. We named one of the cows, "Bad Cow" and another one we named "Elsie".

FIU coach Mervyl Melendez says about Cannady:

"Seth is what we consider is going to be a power-hitting outfielder. He's a very physical, strong kid that will spend a lot of time in the outfield for us."
