Women’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision at Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2014) — The FIU women's tennis team (1-1) fell to the Stetson Hatters (2-1), 4-3, on Sunday afternoon from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla.
 
Stetson jumped out to a 1-0 lead following doubles action, as the duo of Tina Mohorcic and Nina Nagode fell to Diana Bukajeva and Isabella Fernandez and the tandem of Carlotta Orlando and Giulietta Boha lost to Lindsey Cable and Eveline Lepinay.
 
In singles play, FIU tied the contest at 1-1 as Nagode downed Stetson's Andrea Crespo, 6-2, 6-1. The Hatters regained the lead, 2-1, following a 6-0, 7-5 loss by Valentina Briceno to Cari Berry.  Mohorcic fell to MB Stauffer MacDowell, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0, to give SU a 3-1 advantage. However, the Panthers battled back with two-straight victories as Boha defeated Carolina Meregalli, 6-3, 6-0, and Aleksandra Trifunovic defeated Fernandez, 6-1, 6-3, to tie the match at 3-all. The Hatters clinched the match as Bukajeva defeated Orlando, 6-4, 7-5.
 
The Panthers will next travel to Winthrop, S.C., to take on the Winthrop Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 13. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
