FIU Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 68 Princeton

MIAMI (March 20, 2014) – The FIU women's tennis team (6-5) fell to No. 68 Princeton (9-5), 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead, winning the doubles points. The duo of sophomore Carlotta Orlando and freshman Tina Mohorcic fell to Lindsay Graff and Joan Cannon, 8-7 (6) and the tandem of freshmen Nina Nagode and Valentina Briceno dropped an 8-4 decision to Emily Hahn and Amanda Muliawan. Senior Giulietta Boha and sophomore Aleksandra Trifunovic defeated Caroline Joyce and Katie Goepel, 8-1
 
FIU tied the match, 1-1, when Nagode downed Hahn, 6-3, 6-2, to open singles play. Princeton regained the lead, 2-1, as Boha fell to Goepel, 6-2, 7-5, and extended its advantage with a 6-4, 6-0 loss by Orlando to Graff. The Tigers clinched the match, 4-1, as Katherine Flanigan defeated Briceno, 7-6 (4), 6-3. FIU picked up the final two points, as Mohorcic won (7-6 [5], 7-5 over Joyce) and Trifunovic won (6-4, 7-5, retired over Muliawan).
 
The Panthers will next host Columbia on Saturday, March 22, from the FIU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
