Box Score MIAMI (April 27, 2014) – The FIU baseball team (31-12) picked up a 15-0 victory over the Saint Peter's Peacocks in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The 14th shutout for the Panthers extends their Conference USA single-season record and puts them two shutouts shy of tying the FIU school record.
Junior
Josh Anderson led the way for the Panthers, belting two home runs and driving in four. Junior
Julius Gaines raised his batting average above .300 with a perfect 4-for-4 effort with four RBI. Junior
L.K. Thompson hit his first career home run in an FIU uniform. Freshman
Chris Mourelle tossed five scoreless innings, struck out three and allowed just three hits.
FIU got on the board in the first with three runs, starting on an RBI single by senior
Zach Sweety, scoring senior
Tyler Hibbert who doubled to lead off the game. Freshman
Gunnar McNeill also had an RBI single to up the Panther lead to 2-0. Gaines capped off the three-run inning with an RBI double.
Sophomore
Edwin Rios led off the third inning with a triple to center field and then later scored on a two-run double by Gaines. Freshman J.C. Escarra drove in two runs later in the inning on a single, extending FIU's lead to 7-0.
Anderson ripped the first of his two home runs in the fourth, the first being a solo shot. Gaines drove in his fourth run on a single to give the Panthers a 9-0 advantage. Anderson then came back in the fifth inning and hit a three-run shot to up the lead to 12-0.
Sweety recorded a sac fly in the seventh to make it 13-0. Thompson's two-run homer came in the eighth to cap off the Panther scoring.
FIU is off for the week before heading to East Carolina to open a three-game Conference USA series with the Pirates on Friday.
