@FIUBaseball Drops Midweek Contest to USF, 6-4

Rios leads the way with three hits and an RBI in the loss

Box Score MIAMI (May 7, 2014) – FIU Baseball (34-13) dropped a midweek contest to USF (25-23) on Wednesday night at the FIU Baseball Stadium. USF earned the win using 10 different pitchers in the game.

Sophomore Edwin Rios led the way for the Panthers with three hits. Juniors Julius Gaines and Josh Anderson each had two hits apiece in the loss. Senior Zach Sweety drove in two runs and tripled.

After the Bulls plated two runs in the first, FIU came back with a three-spot in the bottom half. Anderson and Rios, who each walked earlier in the inning, scored on Sweety's two-run triple. A single by junior Alec Beyersdorf scored Sweety from third to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead.

USF went on to score three unanswered runs before FIU scored one in the sixth. Junior Roche Woodard, who led off the sixth with a walk, scored on senior Tyler Hibbert's sacrifice fly to make it 5-4 in favor of the Bulls.
The Bulls would add an insurance run in the seventh inning to make it 6-4. FIU left 11 runners on base in the game, including two in the eighth and two in the ninth.

The Panthers are back in action this weekend, hosting Middle Tennessee State in their final home series of the season.
